Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) was a Danish architect and designer celebrated for his modernist approach, seamlessly blending aesthetics with functionality. A leading figure in Scandinavian design, he created timeless furniture pieces, most notably the Egg Chair (1958). Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg Chair features an organic, sculptural form that provides both comfort and privacy, making it an enduring icon of mid-century design. Jacobsen also designed the Swan Chair, the Ant Chair, and the Series 7 Chair, all of which remain highly influential. Beyond furniture, his architectural works include the National Bank of Denmark and St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. His designs, characterized by clean lines, innovation, and attention to detail, continue to shape modern interiors and inspire designers worldwide.
